HEWITT......looking for any help in the research of my ancestry. All details are very sketchy, but my branch of Hewitt's originally seems to have come from Horsforth, Leeds, and then moved to Hull. A very elderly aunt is convinced of an "Irish connection" as she puts it, and thought it was her Grandfather who had been born there. However, through my research, I have gone back as far as my Gt Gt Gt Gt Grandfather, who was Robert Hewitt, born around 1790 or earlier, but for who I can find no information. Perhaps he may have been Irish, but no other members of the family since have been found to have been born there. The strange thing is that between 1861 and 1871, the following family all disappear from the English censuses, John Hewitt born Horsforth c1812, his wife Elizabeth born Barrow c1826, daughter Ann born Horsforth c1837, daughter Sarah born Kirkstall Leeds c1842, son Robert Watts Hewitt born Hull c1855, and daughter Emily Watts Hewitt born Hull c1858. ALSO, the next generation of Hewitt's that remain traceable include William Elliott Hewitt born Hull Beverley in 1866, who vanishes between 1871 and 1881.STRANGEST of all is that my Gt Grandfather, one John Thomas Hewitt (Tom as he was known), born Beverley 1867, his wife Ada born Owston Ferry c1871 disappear in the 1891 census, together with their first child George Hewitt, born Hull 1890. Having had George in Hull in 1890, and not appeared in the 1891 census, they are back in Hull when they have their next child, William born in Hull in 1892. My instinct is that the earlier members of the family that disappear had gone to live in Ireland, and that John Thomas and Ada took their first born to show to brothers, sisters and parents in Ireland. Can anybody please help in any way ?
