I am writing to you in hopes that you may assist me in locating the adoption record of my older sister.
Approximately a month ago, my aging father, Kenneth Abbiss, informed me that he had a daughter with a woman he cared a great deal about back home in the Midlands.
Because his life, after the war, had taken him to America and away from her, he completely lost touch. I don’t believe he had any idea how to even begin to find the woman, or the child she gave birth to after the years had unfolded.
After being told of my sister’s existence, I began my quest to locate her. I have discovered that the woman my father knew was a Gwenoline Rose Lindsey, who lived at 14 Waldron Avenue, Brierley Hills - in the Midlands. My sister was born in September 1947, in the same area. I have determined her name at birth to be Camille Lindsey. I am currently waiting for a copy of her birth certificate, which I recently ordered. Gwen apparently gave her up for adoption at some point between 1947 and 1950. I have been told that she was adopted from a children’s home in Mirfield, West Yorkshire. She may have been sent to this home by an adoption agency. I’m told only two homes existed in Mirfield at this time and neither are currently in business.
Please let me know what you may be able to do? What additional information you need? Or, if there is another agency I need to contact.
