MCLAREN- I am searching for more information on my McLaren and actually Peacock line too. I found the marriage of James McLaren and Elizabeth Peacock on 1 January 1854 in Gorbals, Lanark, Scotland. The church record shows that they both lived in Hutchesontown. I found the birth of two of their children, Jane on 9 Feb 1858 in Edinburgh and Elizabeth 30 Oct 1855 also in Edinburgh. The first record of them in the US can be found in 1870 in Scranton, PA, then in Hudson County, NJ finally settling in NY by 1880. I don't know how to move backwards in Scotland to find their parents. There are so many James and Elizabeth's. I can estimate his year of birth to be around 1832 based on US Census records and hers to be about 1838. I know some sort of relative named Thomas McLaren came to the US also because he died at the home of James in Brooklyn, he was only 10 years James' junior so I am doubtful that it is a son, more likely a brother or cousin. All suggestions on the best way to proceed are welcome.
