Melville/Melvin..Looking for link to Scotland for my Melvin line. Earliest known is James Melvin,Sr. born @ 1714 in British Isles, most probably. He lived in Bucks County PA, USA until death between Nov-Dec 1778. Was impressive personage, holding important office of Assemblyman from 1756 through 1766. Helped raise monies for defense of the colonies for the Crown. An old family tale is that our family were the Melville's in Scotland and the name was changed to Melvin upon landing in the Colonies. His wife was Susannah (?), and they had Thomas Melvin Sr 1736, John Melvin Sr. 1737, Mary melvin 1738, James J melvin Jr. 1739. Strike a chord with anyone???
