I am looking for information on my grandfather John Mackenzie. I believe he was born 1867. On 1881 census he was living in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, with a family called Lindsay. He was a coalminer. He gives his birth place as Granton, Edinburgh. At time of his marriage to Sarah Harvey 1888 at Dalmellington Ayrshire he gives his address as Newton Cambuslang, his parents as John & Sarah Mackenzie (Stewart) both deceased. After death of his wife Sarah 1912 he drifted away from the family. I know he was in WW1 but I do not know what regiment. He died 1944 at a place called Thrashbush Home 16 Rochsolloch Rd., Airdrie. I believe this was a home for soldiers. On his death certificate his mother is listed as Sarah Cairns, the information on his death certificate was given by a John W. Wood Occupier, so not sure if this is true. John & Sarah Mackenzie (Harvey) had the following children John, Margaret, Sarah, Alexander, James, Elizabeth, Ina, Roderick. All the family except John came to Canada. John lived all his life in the Patna area.
Hope someone can help me I have been working on this for almost 20 years but keep hitting the famous brick wall.
Elizabeth
