Am looking for information on William Martin and descendants, b. Newtonards, Ireland ca. 1830-1839; d. Galston, Ayr, Scotland

m. Elizabeth Carruthers (or Cruthers) Oct. 16, 1857 in Sorn, Ayr, Scotland. Elizabeth died about 1910 in Galston.

William and Elizabeth had four or more children:

David Andrew b. Dec 23, 1864, Galston (or Sorn); moved to USA April 1886; d. April 23, 1940, Joliet, IL

Elizabeth (Liz)

Unknown daughter

William b. June 2, 1867, Loudoun, Ayr, Scotland

David, my g-grandfather, had a niece named Lillian living in or near Kilmarnock in 1923, when she sailed to New York on the Adriatic with an unknown person (assume husband), departing on 28 April. In her letter dated 23 April to David, she also writes "dad and I are going to the cemetery at Galstone today."

David also appears to have had a nephew, John, killed in WWI on April 7, 1918. I have a photo of John with parents taken Feb 4, 1918 at a Liverpool studio.

I also have photos of sister Liz, Nurse Margaret A. Martin - Dundee War Hospital, and other unknown people.

As recently as 1972, some relatives still lived in Ayr - William & Elizabeth Martin and their son Robert.
