DAVIS AND COATS FAMILIES

I am trying to find information on the Davis or Davies family, and the Coats or Coates families who settled in Newfoundland, Canada.
Three Coats brothers, Charles, born 1793 was the youngest , James, and George, arrived on the south coast of NFLD., by ship out of England, in 1812. Charles and James settled and raised families in the area of Trinity Bay. George disappeared and was not heard from again. Their parents are perhaps Ralph and Sarah. Older folklore maintains that there was a connection to the illustrious owners of Coats Thread. There may be a connection to Scotland?
As for the Davis family, Jacob (?Ruben) Davis born 1853, reportedly from Wales, arrived in Newfoundland (perhaps shipwrecked) in the mid to late 1800's along with a brother or/and uncles, one of whom was Jonathan. Jacob settled in the Port aux Basques area. I have a good deal of information about their descendants, but nothing before their arrival in Newfoundland. (Folklore here maintains that the Davies boys were descendants of a lady in waiting who was exiled to Australia.) Jacob Davis' son Louis, married Mary Coats, a descendant of James.
Does any of this ring a bell with anyone - I am stumped! Any help at all would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
