When I was ten, my aunt wrote in a book of Welsh Legends she gave me: "Somewhere deep inside you, there's a little bit of Wales. Perhaps you'll find it stirring to read a Welshman's tales." That "little bit of Wales" leads me to seek descendants of, or information about ancestors of, Rees JONES - Mayor of Cardiff in 1880, colliery owner and I think shipping owner, bn. c1835. His children were Edith Marion JONES, bn. c1863, became Lady BERTRAM; Mary Beatrice JONES, bn. c 1868; Clara Gertrude JONES, bn. c 1869; Cyril Charles JONES, bn. c1874; Maud Hilda JONES, bn. c1876, married a GRANT. Edith and Maud ended their days late 1950s, early 1960s as residents of Grace and Favour Apartments at Hampton Court Palace. Rees' wife was Mary COOK, bn. c1836 in Liverpool, Lancashire, ENG. Their first born was my gt. gt. grandfather - William Luther JONES, sent to New Zealand c. 1876 because his father refused to pay any more gambling debts. Family lived at 1 Newport Road, Haswell Terrace, Cardiff at time of 1881 Census. Porthkerry House was also a residence at some stage. Any information about any of these people or places much appreciated.
