I am trying to determine where in Ireland my g-grandfather came from. His name was Peter Fitzgerald. His father and mother were Michael Fitzgerald and Lady Nancy Eaton. His siblings were Maurice, Michael, Patrick, John, Mary, and Ellen. I believe he was from Kerry but am not sure. Peter was born in 1845 and came to the U.S. in 1870. He resided in Poughkeepsie, New York and lived there the rest of his life, as far as I know. He was naturalized on Oct. 23, 1874 in Dutchess County Supreme Court in Poughkeepsie. He married a Canadian immigrant, Mary O'Connor, whose parents (James O'Connor and Mary Murphy} were also from Ireland. Peter and Mary(O'Connor)Fitzgerald had several children - Edward Michael (my grandfather), Maurice, Peter, James, Mary Anne, Mary Ella, and Anna Marie. Peter worked in a shoe factory in Poughkeepsie, as did his brother Patrick, who may have come the the U.S. with Peter. Patrick was about seven years younger than Peter. Peter was 25 when he came to the U.S., and if Patrick came over at the same time, he would have been 18.
