Hello-
My ancestors were ALEXANDER ORR MCGOWAN amd his wife, MARGARET MCKITTRICK MCGOWAN. He was born in Ballykeel, Sept.25, 1812, and his wife was born March 14, 1813, in Lisleen, a parish of Comber. They were married Sept. 25, 1837, at her mother's home, by the Rev. Francis Blakely of Moneyrea.
They were both teachers, first at Ballyhalbert, and in 1843, moved to Dunmurray, Co. Antrim. He took charge of the National School there, and his wife took charge of the girls school there. She was also the postmistress for Dunmurray. He was also a tutor for many wealthy families' children in the area.
They came to the US in 1849, and eventually settled in WAUSHARA Co., Wisconsin, by 1851.
I am trying to find out their parents' names, and if possible, his grandparents, since he was raised by his paternal grandfather because his father was an invalid. There is no mention of his mother or his grandmother in our family records.
I would love to hear from anyone who recognizes any of these names. ORR is also a family name.
